The Ever-Changing Landscape of Teaching

Over the past eight years of being an educator, I've witnessed a seismic shift in teaching paradigms. Having taught before, during, and after the pandemic, I've seen firsthand the evolving challenges.

The Elusive Job Description of a 21st-Century Teacher. In today's educational landscape, teachers are expected to be:

1. Master Multitaskers: Manage classrooms of 30 diverse students, addressing individual needs while delivering curricula.

2. Gap Fillers: Bridge pandemic-induced knowledge gaps with rigorous lessons, while teaching emotional intelligence for some parents won't teach them at home.

3. Edutainers: Outshine smartphones and iPads in engagement and entertainment value.

4. Differentiation Experts: Differentiate because one size doesn’t fit all but we also need a track record so here's a standardized exam and if they fail: it's your fault.

5. Accountability Balancers: Hold students accountable but you can't give them zeros, accepting late work, because you know! Working busy parents!

6. Digital Communicators: Post online updates, make individual parent calls, and ensure seamless communication.

7. Lesson Plan Architects: We trust in your capabilities to teach but write lesson plans and submit daily.

8. Crisis Managers: By the way, the printer is out of ink so you need to handwrite those activities and an angry parent is trying to sue you for they don't authorize anybody to shout at their kids for misbehaviour.

Okay! That's it for now. Remember to practice self care because mental health matters and don't forget to smile.
